Why Did Exalate Want a Team Retreat?
Their team wanted to organize an activity-focused retreat to let their team members bond in a fun and engaging way. After hosting some great retreats before, this time they teamed up with Midstay to make planning smoother and focus on creating meaningful moments that bring the team even closer.
Choosing the Perfect Retreat Destination
The retreat took place in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It was chosen because of its easy access for team members coming from different countries with different visa requirements. Kuala Lumpur offers the perfect mix of culture and modern vibes, making it a great spot for a team retreat.
Exalate stayed at one of our venue partners, a 5-star hotel, M Resort & Hotel Kuala Lumpur. It’s inspired by local culture and has everything you need: on-site restaurants, spa, meeting facilities, fitness center, pool, and a business center. The venue was ideal for this retreat focusing on informal team bonding as well as planned activities – making sure the team could enjoy both.

The team didn’t have to think about the planning at all – Midstay streamlined the process by handling all the arrangements from finding the right accommodation, select the right activities and plan a well-balanced retreat schedule. Exalate’s Winning Team Retreat Itinerary
Day 1: Icebreaker, Team Game and Sunset Dinner
- Morning: After arriving the day before, the team kicked off the retreat with a relaxed breakfast and some free time to explore the hotel’s facilities. It was a perfect way to start the day and let everyone connect on a personal level.
- Afternoon: The group headed to the team-building venue where they first participated in an Icebreaker activity, to later join the exciting experience Chamber of Hocus (Project: Fallout) challenge. This is a fun escape-game experience requiring teamwork, problem-solving, and communication as participants worked together to solve a mystery and escape captivity. It includes both physical challenges as well as problem-thinking, giving the team members the full experience of team bonding.
- Evening: The day concluded with sunset cocktails and a welcome dinner to let the team connect in a casual setting.
Day 2: Team Challenge and Gala Dinner
- Morning: The team began the day with a city morning walk followed by breakfast.
- Midday: The activity of the day was the Amazing Race team-building challenge. This activity includes problem-solving and needs communication and teamwork for the teams to finish various tasks together.
- Afternoon: The team had lunch, and after that, the members returned to the hotel for free time as well as time to refresh and enjoy the hotel’s facilities.
- Evening: The day concluded with a gala dinner with the dress code Casual Chic.
Day 3: Reflection and Cultural Experience
- Morning: The retreat ended with a team breakfast and a casual session to reflect on the experience and sync up on the next milestones.
- Midday: The team wrapped up the retreat with a visit to Batu Caves temple, a fun and cultural experience to finish off the trip.
- Afternoon: Participants headed to the airport for departure.
