Pemandu Associates is a leading consultancy specializing in socio-economic transformation and business turnarounds. They are facing the common challenges of a globally spread out team and wanted to bring them together in a team building retreat to align on objectives, foster personal connections, and build team cohesion. They partnered with us to create a transformative retreat that seamlessly blended professional focus with team-building and relaxation.
Between January 9 and January 11, 2025, Pemandu Associates took 51 team members for a team-building retreat in Langkawi, Malaysia. It was a 3-day and 2-night event that we designed for the company’s team members to align on goals and strengthen team connections in an inspiring setting.
Strengthening bonds in person
Their team members are working on various projects across the globe, so Pemandu wanted to break the physical distance for once and create an environment where everyone could come together. The retreat provided a unique opportunity for the company to align on annual targets and objectives as well as enhance relationships through team-building activities. The team also had time to recharge and reflect in a relaxed setting.
Midstay collaborated closely with Pemandu to design a retreat that balanced their desire of including a structured work session with engaging activities to ensure an impactful experience.
The success of Pemandu’s retreat
Our team ensured every aspect of the retreat was tailored to meet Pemandu’s goals – from logistics and facilities to activities and food. Pemandu saved over 80 hours of planning by letting us handle the preparations, which allowed the company to focus on building connections and aligning on their strategic objectives rather than the arrangements.
Langkawi was the ideal destination for connections and team building
Langkawi is known for its beaches, green scenery and light blue waters which provided an inspiring backdrop relevant for the retreat. The destination’s balance of relaxation and inspiration aligned with Pemandu’s goals of combining work with team building.
The retreat took place at Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa which has a variety of amenities like a pool, spa, fitness center, meeting facilities, business center, and dining. The facilities make the resort optimal for work and activities, which made the retreat productive and effective.
The agenda
The retreat’s itinerary was crafted to align with Pemandu’s objectives, combining a work session with purposeful activities as well as time for relaxation.
Day 1: Arrival, work session and welcomes
The participants began the team retreat arriving at Langkawi International Airport where they were welcomed and transported to Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa. The retreat officially began with a welcome lunch at the resort, offering a chance for team members to settle in and connect.
The afternoon included a strategic work session where the team members aligned on annual goals and objectives. Afterward, participants got a chance to enjoy the resort’s amenities or take time to relax before preparing for the evening. They gathered for a welcome dinner at Hidden Langkawi which is a charming restaurant where the team could get to know each other even more.
Day 2: Team building activities
The second day of the retreat started with a team breakfast to energize participants for the upcoming activities. The first one was the Beach Olympics, where different engaging team-building games were held on the resort’s beach. This team-building activity encourages collaboration, friendly competition, and team spirit.
After having lunch at the resort, the participants had some free time to explore the facilities or relax before another team-building activity: the Amazing Race challenge. This brings excitement and camaraderie since teams work together to solve puzzles and complete different tasks. It’s a dynamic activity to foster creativity, problem-solving, and trust among team members.
The day finished off with a gala dinner at Dash Resort Langkawi. This included live entertainment, delicious cuisine, and a festive atmosphere to celebrate the team’s efforts and achievements.
Day 3: Reflection and Departure
The final day of the retreat began with another team breakfast, allowing participants to reflect on their experiences and connections over the past two days. After enjoying some moments of relaxation at the resort, the group departed for Langkawi International Airport, to head back.
